    Experiences with plaquenil

At first it seemed like it helped now I feel the same as before I started taking the medicine other than the fact that none of my clothes fit and there is a lot more of me to carry around. Anyone know if I quit taking it if the weight will fall back off I started Hydroxychloroquine 2 weeks ago. One week in and I thought this may just work, except for the ‘extra itchiness’ I seemed to get every night.

I don't want to give up breastfeeding but i don't know how long i can go without my meds, especially as i have two older children as well. My rhuematologist believes that there is very little chance that the Plaquenil will harm my son, but i am still nervous. Can anyone tell me their experiences? Thank you Mem Plaquenil is a slow-acting drug, meaning that it can take up to 6 months to experience the full benefits of this medication, but it is possible for symptoms to improve in as few as 1 or 2 months. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives. I was prescribed this drug to ease my ra disease, I was taking 400mg per day which was to last for 3 months then reduced to 200mg. Right before I hit the two week mark, I woke up with my heart racing and continued feeling my heart flutter all day and I just felt week and tired. After msging Rheum, decided to stop taking meds to see how I feel and continue with the AIP to handle symptoms and try to work at ‘healing from inside out! Time will tell and I’m eager to see how much the AIP is helping once odd meds.

  6. Hi Vanessa, Your post touched a cord with me; I can only tell you from my own experience with plaquenil. I was put on 200mgs twice a day about a year ago and sadly after 2 months I reacted to it very badly, skin just inflamed and was totally horrid.

Hydroxychloroquine oral tablet is available as a brand-name drug and a generic drug. Brand name Plaquenil. Hydroxychloroquine comes only as a tablet you take by mouth. Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat malaria, lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Plaquenil has been a life-saving drug for me, quite literally. I was a mess in 2004-2005 and then a dr put me on Plaquenil, and in 3 weeks most of my symptoms had disappeared. My own experience is that I thought my extreme fatigue was partly from my diagnoses and partly from my methotrexate. I recently saw a surgeon for something unrelated and she indicated, in passing, that she thinks the cause is likely from the plaquenil. I'm getting a hunch that in my case, she may just be right. What are your experiences?
