    How to prepare chloroquine

Chloroquine has been extensively used in mass drug administrations, which may have contributed to the emergence and spread of resistance. It is recommended to check if chloroquine is still effective in the region prior to using it.

Chloroquine is an antimalarial drug. Malaria invade RBCs and degrade the hemoglobin to utilize their amino acids. However heme molecules are toxic to malarial cells, therefore malaria polymerize. Chloroquine is a weak base which can partition into acidic vesicles such as endosomes and lysosomes, resulting in inhibi-tion of endosomal acidification and lysosomal enzyme activity. Because acidic pH of endosomes is a prerequisite of endoso-mal TLR activation, chloroquine can serve as an antagonist for endosomal TLRs. Chloroquine is used to treat and prevent malaria. Chloroquine phosphate was discovered in 1934 by Hans Andersag. It can also be used to treat amebiasis that is occurring outside of the intestines, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus erythematosus. The side effects are mild unless someone is allergic to chloroquine.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend against treatment of malaria with chloroquine alone due to more effective combinations. In areas where resistance is present, other antimalarials, such as mefloquine or atovaquone, may be used instead.
