Sep 11, 2012 "Plaquenil, stomach pain and diarrhea" giggled when I saw that.there, done that. I wanted to quit it early too. Begged my doc. She told me to hang tough and get through it, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I improved after about 3 mos. I just passed my 8 mo. marker and felt another substantial level of improvement. Depending on what you're being treated for, it can take up to 6 months for the full benefits of Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine. Many people have nausea, stomach cramps, and diarrhea when they first start taking Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine. When I started Plaquenil almost 2 months ago I assumed the GI issues were a side effect and it would eventually go away but it hasn't. I'm going to bring it up to my rheumy when I see him. For now I'm trying to avoid dairy the best I can.

Stars. Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. I started taking Plaquenil 4 weeks ago for non specific autoimmune disease as indicated by ANA. Symptoms were low grade temperature off and on for a year, joint pain and fatigue. I have already felt some relief. Some nauseau at first but less problem with fever and joint pain. But, now I have started having stomach cramps and diarrhea. I understand these may go away. Is there anything I can. Apr 10, 2019 Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Important information. Taking Plaquenil long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye.
