Breastfeeding. Breastfeeding has multiple benefits to both mother and baby. It is safe to breastfeed whilst taking prednisolone, hydroxycholoquine and heparin or warfarin. Most centres will advise that is is safe to breastfeed whilst taking azathioprine as there are only low levels of the active metabolite in breast milk. Apr 16, 2010 WheelieMom, I looked quickly over the internet and it seems like it is okay to breastfeed while taking Plaquenil. There is a breastfeeding specialist named Dr. Hale that has done research on this type of thing, so maybe look into his research because he seems to say it is okay. Apr 21, 2019 A woman who had been breastfeeding for 9 months began taking hydroxychloroquine sulfate 400 mg equivalent to 310 mg hydroxychloroquine base nightly. After 6 weeks of this regimen, steady-state milk levels were 1.46, 1.09, 1.09 and 0.85 mg/L at 2, 9.5, 14 after one dose and 17.7 hours after a dose on the next day. HOWEVER, that being said, RE has given me the option to take Plaquenil due to the overall circumstances of the previous pregnancy and working to keep us from having a repeat loss. I was wondering if anyone has taken Plaquenil, or known anyone who has. Just wondering if anyone is currently on hydroxychloroquine or plaquenil and breast feeding? I am 32 weeks pregnant and have been taking 400 mg of the drug for several months because of an autoimmune disease. My doctor has suggested that it may not be safe for me to breastfeed because I will need to remain on the drug after I deliver.
